The year was 1976 (Hot). I was 17. The night before I was due to collect UEX 809L, I lay in bed ... unable to sleep. I never did get to sleep.

I have owned many bikes since then, some of them blinkin' good ones, but none of them gave me a sleepless night beforehand. Now I know this has more to do with being your 1st wheels, rather than the bike itself, but even so ... the sight of a fizzy stirs up those memories all over again. Thirty years from now, perhaps teenagers of today will get all dewy eyed over an ancient Peugeot Speedfight, and the sight of a crash hat with a pair of floppy woolly ears glued on the side! (What a thought).

Trouble is .... now that I have reached that point, and really really want one of these 4BHP monsters to sit in the garage (My Bandit 12 will die laughing!), the cost of even a wreck leaves me speechless. What to do ? Pay the asking price? (Wife frowns a bit), or wait and hope to stumble in to one in a barn.

Join a 'club' seems a good move, so here I am.  ...Oh yes ... my name really is Alan Speed. I do have a mildly amusing motoring offence story that is related to my name, but that’s for another time.

All the best to you all, and ride safe.

Hi there everyone...my name is Andy and I live in Stevenage.

I have two Fizzies a 77 DX and 75 purple they both now run and I plan to get the purple one MOT'd this year after 5 years of working on it on and off along with the yellow one.

I think that I got involved again fairly early as I picked up my bikes between £180 and £240 and managed to relieve one dealer of most of his obsolete stock at a knock down price. The result of this is that few parts have posed a problem and I have managed to help other people get theirs on the road without a second mortgage.

I really enjoy riding the bikes around and the discussions that they generate with people who remember them from almost thirty years ago..

I am planning to go to Baldock bike meeting at the white lion in mid September and hope to enjoy a beer and a chat again..

I am 42 years old, and have just been taken back to 1979, my fizzy days, i remember it like yesterday, i picked it up at 10.00am on the saturday morning, it was brand new which was something very special, as i had been saving up my paper rounds money for about 2 years for the deposit yes i did say paper rounds, i had 5 of them, when i picked it up, it was 1 of the first restricted ones, and i was told that i would have to run it in for 300 miles, i was also told at that time i would then need to bring it back for a service, so i booked it in there and then for the coming Monday, i remember the sales man at the time querying this, but i assured him that my bum would not be off of the seat all weekend, when i returned on the Monday i had clocked up over 400 miles service done it was time to borrow some money off of my older brother (lots of begging there) to buy an expansion chamber,  this was for 2 reasons, 1 to increase the speed from the restricted 30 mph to a clock reading of 55 mph, what a buzz that was, and secondly to annoy the neighbours with the noise, (that will teach them for all the times that they would not give me my ball back).

From then on it was out every moment day or night rain or shine, with my fizzy mates, god we must have clocked up some miles, over the coming years i had many other bikes, and have recently returned to biking, but nothing will stick in my memory like my fizzy days and the many great times and friends that have long since married got large mortgages families and the other usual commitments, that are far from important when you are 16 now that i have waffled on, it just leaves me to say thank you, for producing such a great site

Thank you

Will visit again soon

Hi all, I just thought I'd introduce myself as I'm a newbie.... My first bike was a 1973 purple fizzy, I was 16 and I bought it from my friend whos' father had given it to him. My friends' dad was a local bobby in Cornwall he was 6' 4" and he used it to commute to work. When I got it it definately didn't need a decoke and went like the clappers. I bought it from him for £145, this was 1981. Needless to say, I'd never ridden a bike on the road before and my friends had to explain how the gears worked - never the less I was insured and had ridden a push bike on the roads for years so what could be different!!! The next day (I picked it up the evening before) I was going down the road with all my mates - also on fizzies - I looked behind, hit the kerb, and came off - bent the headlight bracket, snapped an indicator and the broke the clutch lever - welcome to world of motorcycling I was hooked. There wasn't so much traffic on the roads then and I don't think there was training courses like there is today. I'm 42 now and still ride, I have a 1984 LCII Powervalve (Red/White) under restoration (I had one in the late 80's), an 1977 XT500, YZ 250 Mxer and a BSa B40 scramble bike - like I say I was hooked and still am. Where is my old Fizzy XCO 386M...............? THanks, AndyL.

Hey, I've just turned 16 and have always wanted a motorbike for aslong as i can remember, I had off road bikes, a very old dt 50, then more recently a TTR-250, but with not being on the road there was always something missing. Then when i reached 16, I thought a slow as hell, gearless... what can only be described as a.... ****, scooter, would some how not reach my motor cycling needs... so i asked my farther...(a wise man) he reccommended what he had...a FS1-E. So still a 15 year old, i ebayed, personal ad searched rang constant antique moped dealers. The one sunny june afternoon, i recieved an email...lets just say the TTR was gone in moments. and i had my very first Fizzy... oh how i love it. I get a few funny looks, and a few bewildered men looking in amazement as i pull up beside them... and everyone at school says...and i quote 'looks shite' ... can your scooter push 50?

respect to the site though

Well sorry guys but in1975 I was proud owner of a Gilera 50 trail, but rode round with various fizzys. So after restoring my Gilera all but the age related registration. I last year got hold of a very rough fizzy with the idea of building a Popsicle Purple baby to share my shed with the Gilera. How sad but there you go. I must admit the Fs1e was a brill bike but I did have the edge up hill and over the local slag heaps where all peds of the time were trialed.

This time in 1975 getting a ped was a kids first introduction to freedom and real fun. This led to me joining the RAF and obtaining an RD250 to get home every weekend for nine months training. Various bikes and jobs later I am now 47 with a ZX7R 750 in the garage which has got to go as I think we stay 16 yrs old whenever we step over a bike, and my license is just to valuable. Perhaps and old Brit triumph will slow me down. No more mopeds though this one is costing the whole of EBAY.

Have fun guys I will when this one is finished, maybe this summer I HOPE.

Cheers Kev

Hi to all Fizzy riders old and new....I was a 1970's Sixteener...and had loads of fun with Fizzies...loads of stories etc etc etc...great days. Owned lots of different ones...then bought a new red DX in 1977...it was hard to choose between the colours at the time...I nearly got a yellow one!!...But the red Dx was cool. We were all into tuning and go faster stuff. Probably was the most fun of all my biking days. I'm located, as I was then...Nr Heathrow Airport London. Best wishes...Hope to chat with a few of you soon.

Hi All

I have been pestering the tips and tircks page for help so thought I would let people know what I'm doing. I am doing up an 87 fs1 for my daughter.

She doesn't want a twist and go scooter as they are soooo 18 months ago.  I bought the thing very cheap from a local herbert and am doing it up so she can have for college and stiff.  So far I have bought and fitted new front and rear mudgaurds. New mini indicators (old ones badly broken glued and bodged), New headlight rim, New clutch cable and worm gear, New air filter, New seat cover, New side panel covers , will need new mirrors, Repainted frame black, tank and side panels in yellow and ordered speed block tank graphics.

Hi guys, just thouht id do the right thing and introduce myself.
Many moons ago, well 25 i used to have a fs1e dx to go to school on in my final year. The good old days if i remember rightly.
Anyway, im in the process of getting another fs1e, sadly not the dx but hey ho, and will need to do a bit of restoration on her.
I am a welder/fabicator by trade. i am a biker and i also own a cagiva 1000 v-twin and a Kawasaki ZX7R sports bike.
I enjoy having a beer or two down the local with my other biker mates and i also enjoy keeping tropical fish.

The reason this bike came into being was that we have decided to do a charity moped ride from Blackpool to scarborough in fancy dress this summer

Hi
Had my first Fs1e in 76 (NPN 44P where are you) and restored a purple one a year later. Also had a Gilera and Garelli tiger cross (both of which were vastly inferior to the Fs1e). Emigrated to Swaziland in 1987, and picked up a couple of rusty incomplete F5a's in 2000 (same basic design as the fsie but the engine had autolube. The tank, seat, sidecovers and headlight were different though). I also bought an Fs1 that was advertised in South Africa as a YB50. It was a 78 model in silver but with the speed block tank. Apart from no pedals, a different rear light and autolube it looks about the same as the late model U.K. Fs1es. The oil tank is steel and looks like the earlier tool roll covers. It did'nt come with an engine though, so I am using one of the F5a engines.
I now live in New Zealand and have restored most of the running gear. I managed to source new genuine Yamaha mudguards, seat, exhaust, swingarm, wheelrims, chainguard, etc from the franchised dealer in Swaziland. (these bikes were still available new up to the late nineties in Mozambique).
I sourced a secondhand candy orange tank from U.K. and that is now the bike's colour. (someone had left the fuel cap off the silver tank and the bike sat outside for a long time in all weather) I am just about to start on the engine rebuild so the bike should be running again in the near future.

Yep just bought a few FS1E's to restore/ride.I've already been out on the GCO which seems to be derestricted as it hit 45mph no probs, the 1988 HOWEVER IS DOG slow about 33mph from that.

Quite a change from my Hayabusa turbo race bike that hits 191mph in 7.9 seconds!!!
But the FS1E is just as much fun and it last for loads longer biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

I'm waiting for the frame and other parts to come back from powder coat the bodywork is painted so its then straight into assembly on the GCO.
The 1988 has me confused at the mo,I bought to put old bodywork on but its been waxed and stored and its so immaculate underneath I think it maybe worthwhile trying for original condition?what do you guys think on the 1988?

Hi i'm new to the site (obviously)

I guess as I've got older I've got to thinking about the 'good old days'...my god didnt we used to take the piss out of pensioners for using that phrase

Unfortunately I never really had an FS1-E, despite how ever many times I begged my parents to let me get one (motorbikes are dangerous) I used to borrow my friends bikes and did many miles on a popsicle purple N reg with a broken clutch lever (stop you bugger)

Tried my friends Gilera trials 50 which was fun in a way. I guess the most enduring things I remember was some bloke who had a fantic super T, he was enormous and wore a long trenchcoat...all you could see was the trenchcoat with the front and rear wheels poking out of it...

Eventually I did get an RD350LC 4lo and loved it but it was an absolute pig on the mways...no longer have it...

I still want a popsicle purple fs1e and a Raleigh chopper mk2 but I'm a little concerned at 47 I might just look a bit daft on them...

Oh well...you only live once.

Hi there, I used to have a fizzy bought brand new back in 74 from Richard rainbow motorcycles in Ware Hertfordshire reg No M 22 WJH in candy gold.

These were fantasic machines. I actually got pulled by the police (who were in an unmarked lime green MGB GT- hence I didnt see them till it was too late) I was tailgating a big truck and luckily only got done for speeding 68mph.....the bike was only slightly modified.....ported and baffles reduced in size. other than that it was a stock machine....

I have seen some of these machines on E-bay and it brought back a whole load of nostalic memories of beating Puch's Honda SS50's having real races with Suzuki SP50's who were a match for the fizzy in speed and getting completely blasted by the Garelli tiger Cross with its 6 speed box and i remeber the guy at Hatfield School who had one and cut down the baffles....you could hear this thing coming like a howling banshee for miles, going up and down the gerbox like a mad thing.....Ohh what great days they were......long hot summers and sodding bad wet winters when the damn plug would always get wet and the bike would cut out now matter how much WD40 went on it.......

Does anyone have an idea on how to trace if my old machine is still around.....

I just was given a fizzy by a friend. I've looked around for a while to try and find out what the bike was and found no information on them in the United States. My friend has owned the bike since it was new. He got it in 1984 and pulled it out of a crate, but it's a 72 model I think. The manufacture date was 8/71. I was wondering what anybody knew about American Fizzys on this forum. This bike is in excellent condition, its spent it's last 15 years indoors as an art piece, so it shouldn't take much to get it going again. I haven't had time to look around the site but I thought I would introduce myself.

Hi all - I bought a 1979 FS1DX project bike about 5 weeks ago and i'm just getting down to restoring it.
The frame is mint and has been stove enamelled, swing arm is mint the same, etch primed and sprayed black, good speedo, mint front forks and rear shocks, footrest and pegs new, re-furbed stand, bought a wiring loom and lots of other bits. angry.gif sad.gif But to my dismay on closer inspection, I think the front forks and rear shocks are wrong the front bottom yoke bolts go in at an angle when they should be straight on the DX. and rear shocks are too long so the bike won't rest on the stand.

Can I just change the Yoke does anyone have one to swap maybe. It seems I have the older FS1E bottom Yoke.

Hi to all,

My name is Chas. From the age of 10 to 24 I lived in Harlow Essex. Before that Islington and Harringay in London, and a couple of years in Moenchengladbach in Germany. I moved back to Germany in 89 and stayed for 5 years then moved to New York and then North Carolina.

I got my first ped (road legal, anyway) in 1976. My birthday was at the start of October, still is actually.

I got a Puch VZ50 for my birthday. It was large, easily as big as most Jap 125's it was bright yellow, it looked really cool. It only had three grears though, like an old scooter on the left hand handgrip. It only did 35mph too. Pulled freakin awesome wheelies though. I could go miles with my feet dragging. The whole length of Elizabeth Way in Harlow (SEVERAL MILES)

After that got knicked (Kharma I suppose, after the 20 something I knicked from out side the tech between the ages of 13 and about 14 and a half. One day I decided not to do that any more. I had some kind of an epiphany.) I got an N reg FS1E from my future brother in law's sister. It was immaculate, It was gold and at least 5mph up on everyone else's. Later it was even faster, when a friend of mine who worked at Zip Karts in Hoddesdon, took the engine to work with him and had it tuned. It did a good honest 70 then with the rear sprocket from a Fantic Ti on it. for example it would pull 45 in 2nd gear. I kept that for about a year then I got another Fizzie, P reg, from a mate. I used to hang out with a lot of friends that I went to school with. Jan Pissula, Andrew Styczynski, Mark Pissula, Lawrance frazer, and many others whose names escape me right now, too much wacky baccy over the years. We would all ride around in large groups vying for position as we swapped places slipstreaming each other all the time.

Hi I have a GT185 and a GT750.

I started with a Puch VZ50, I have also had a Puch GP, two Fizzies (one of which did 70mph+ after extensive tuning at Zip Karts.

I also had a Gilera 50 and 125, a Honda Superdream 125, HONDA 250N with a 400 engine on L plates, Honda C50, Garelli 80, Puch Maxi (when I was 12), BSA Bantam (also when I was 12) BSA C15 250cc single (when I was 13) GT185 when I was 17 which I wrote off and swapped for a good condition CB175 with CD tank, Mobylette when I was 11. I had a 15 year pause came back 6 years ago with a GT185 and then a GT750 Waterbottle.

I want an RD350lc, but I have to buy it in Canada and import back to North Carolina USA (I have lived here for 12 years. I lived in Germany from 1989 to 94 then I moved here. I grew up in Islington and Harlow

Hi, My name is Jonathan Lewis and I am a Fizzie nut there said it,  I was also a 16 year old in 75/6 and I have so many happy memories of my first bit of Independence that my first road bike gave me, when we look back we were so lucky to be the age we were back then as none of the kids since have had a proper Sports Moped like we all had, think of the mass of choice we all had? My story is a good one, I had not got enough money to buy a new one as I was still at school and only 15 but I saved enough money from my Saturday bottle stacking job in my Dads pub to get one from a friend who had had his Popsicle purple one from new, every night from January till my 16th in March I would push this bike to a local no threw lane and ride it until I was so clod I could not feel my feet, then the day arrived I was 16 at midnight the 2nd march 1976 So off I went into the night a fully legal Motorcyclist haha I rode over most of North Yorkshire that night and got home at about 3am the next day I rode to school and most of my mates had sports mopeds SS50,AP50, FS1e’s, FS1eDX,SS50 and this very fast Flandria that looked like a full blown 50cc TT bike.

Well, apart from giving me the much needed independence it also finished my education as from that day all we ever used to do was meet at school at 845am then decide where we would all ride to that day, usually The White Horse Monument or Scarborough, even Whitby if it was not to windy.

That bike got me everywhere it got me girls and into loads of trouble from crashes to fines in court, even about 10 pistons later I was sure I new how to tune it better than the Japs, the best days of our lives but unfortunately none of us ever realised it at the time.

I remember my old man saying enjoy your life now son as soon you will be as old as me and wish you had, my god it seems like yesterday, but alas 4 children 3 wives and a mortgage from hell soon came along, but now that I am old and to fat and bald I have at last got me a mint popsicle Purple Fizzie again!!

I now make my living in motor-racing see www.comtecracing.com and look after very talented young racing drivers who can not understand why an old man like me still worships this small noisy slow Moped-but what do they KNOW.. rolleyes.gif

I am 44 years young, going on 16,( I wish)!!! a few weeks ago, I bought a 1977 FS1E in total need of restoration. as the FS1E is near completion, I thought i'd introduce my self.

The reason I purchased this FS1E is to replace the one 'ad nicked when I was 16. I will be posting before and after pictures shortly.  All the best,  Craig

Hi everyone, this is my first post on the website, hopefully many more to follow. I have subscribed as my wife bought me a fizzy for xmas. Well I say she bought me a fizzy, it should be when I have built it, it is in six boxes at the moment and it all needs a lot of work before it is ready to be assembled, and I had to drive a 570 mile round trip to collect it. So many many hours will be spent in the garage. ( Do you think my wife is trying to tell me something?)
My very first bike was a fizzy dx, yellow in colour and it still holds a special place in my biking history. Like most fizzy nuts I am over forty and born again into biking. My main bike is an Aprilia RSV Mille. I will be picking all your brains I'm sure over the coming months and years, look forward to speaking with you.  My first question is, Does anyone have the colour code for Popsicle purple?
PS. I live in Thornton, Lancs.

Hi my name is Gordon and I'm from Stevenage !!!!!

My first bike was a FS1E DX in the best colour of all yellow. Brought from George brown motorcycles 24 times world record holder in the old town in Stevenage whey back in June 1976. Its one of lives experiences that you remember like yesterday.

Up until reading the article in motorcycle news I had no idea people were still interested in fizzies let alone a web site to browse! Prompted by this I hired a 6 yard skip and dumped a whole pile of shite out of the shed ,so as to reveal one of the loves of my life the first bike I ever owned my fizzy. So ok not in show room condition but with a little tlc it soon will be .

Watch this space Gordon.

My name is Ben and I’ve been into fizzys for about a year now, my dear friend max showed me the way!! I have owned two fizzys a 1977 FS1e dx in cosmic blue which I'm presently restoring for my 16th birthday, its already had many things modified including a bee lined old spec barrel, single ring race piston, polished and skimmed cylinder head, a bored an honed exhaust port and cut disc valve. I have plans for a micron if I can find one!!

The second was a 1976 fs1e in baja brown, unfortunately I only owned this bike for 4 days following a family arguament, which forced the bike to be returned to its respective place in the hedge!!  I have a passion for motocross and divulge in this by way of a 1979 Honda xl125 as the new mx bikes are too costly!

Hi my name is Eamonn I am 50 this year so I guess that makes me of of the original 'sixteener specials'. We were the last lot allowed to leave school at 15 just as the new law came in restricting 16 year olds to mopeds.

As I was 16 in the Autumn of 72 I managed to convince my mum I needed a 'moped' to get to my job 5 miles away. I had seen an article in I think Bike magazine on the SS and managed to order one of the 1st batch from a dealer in Lowestoft.

With h.p. forms completed the bike was duly delivered and my mum went ballistic. "Thats not a moped its a bloody motor bike" It was hard to argue with her. ( If it looks like a Duck quacks like a Duck etc.) my cry of "its got pedals" fell on deaf ears and she insisted my brother gave me some rudimentary lessons before I was allowed out on my own.

I will never forget the sense of freedom that bike gave me, I got over 2 years of great service from it before 4 wheels took over. Where are you now CPV 9L ?

Hi, my name is Guy Davies and I’ve lived in Bristol for all my 37 years. Been bike mad for as long as I can remember (earliest memory was riding my 3 speed bicycle complete with "clappers" and pretending it was a Z900 ).

The 1st bike I ever road was my Dads C90 and a little while later practicing pulling away on my older brothers SS50. Even at that age I knew I only wanted a 2 stroke ped when I turned 16 !! The dream came true and at 16 years of age I was racing around the streets of Bristol on a Garelli Rekord. The same engine still powers my current Garelli

Did a spot of proddie racing on a TZR250 and KR1S in my teens and early 20`s though have never owned a particularly powerful road bike, self preservation maybe . My fun road bike is now a 1980 proddie tuned 250lc.

I'm not sure where the FS1E interest stemmed from but I've been collecting parts for a number of years (including a NOS candy gold tank bought for £10). I've 3 FS1E`s, one with a YB100 motor and 2 others (M&N reg) that need complete rebuilds. The plan is to rebuild the M reg'd one as an original and turn the N reg one into a big bored, big carbed, renthal barred monoshocked beast. It`s going to take a few years a I`ve a wife, 4 step children, a 16 month old daughter, very little time and even less money !! At least one of the fizzies will be built as my 12yr old stepson wants one when he turns 16 (how cool is that )

Love the site and all topics and discussions. Many thanks again to Andy for all his hard work.

Hi folks, my name is Andy and I am about to pass the milestone of 40 years. As a lot of you out there my first wheels were Yamaha infamous FS1. (Code 2f2, 1979)  Fitted with a fantastic special paint job and a lot of chrome parts. Nice, whish I still had it. (Some foto's is all what's left) http://www.bikepics.com/pics/pics/yamaha-f...pics-438839.jpg .

After that a dozen or so real bikes followed, including the upper stroker RD500LC which is still in my shed, next to a FZR1000exup and an OW01.  Always wanted a FS1 back but they are a bit (understatement of the year) overpriced here in Holland.  Found one though from 1974, (Code 378) fairly priced, partly disassembled but complete and well important: matching numbers!
Started to restore part by part, but there is no rush.

So wish me luck and I will keep you posted, Andy

Hi all,

Ihave just joined the forum having become the proud owner of a 1976 FS1E-DX, problem is it's super slow. 26 years ago I had a Gilera touring and remember the fizzies being quite nippy, but my DX won't even pull 40 mph. Its not a restricted model and is complete with pedals. It seems to be incredibly highly geared, 1st and second pull well enough, but it dies in third at around 33mph put it in fourth and it won't pull at all unless downhill or with the wind behind, even then it will only pull 38mph on a good day. The bike spends most of it's time screaming it's nuts off in 3rd as it dies in fourth.

Can anyone tell me what the standard sproket sizes are for this model as this could be part of the problem but I feel there is more to it, any advice greatfully accepted.

Or just how fast should I expect one of these to go, I was expecting at least 45mph, or am I being too optimistic.

Hi all

names freddie, 16, and currently own a black yamaha dt50mx, rd50mx and two honda visions (to be sold soon).  My dt50mx is fully running (tuned like crap at the mo') and is my everyday commute to college, while the rd50mx is a basket case at the moment, but I have plans to rebuild it.

now... ive JUST (literally today) found and bought a fizzy! my freind had it sitting in his back garden for about 3 months now, as he planned on using it (he did his mofo cbt before me, but it never happened due to many things, so today I remembered about it and offered him some cash (how much I wont tell you, you may get jealous!)

I’m so happy that ive finally got a fizzy in good condition (I was looking at poor condition ones, but never really found many for a reasonable price) so ive finally found one in perfect condition....

I plan on doing some work on it, like adding a tachometer (how hard is this?) as I like the idea of having one (for looks mainly) and also plan on converting it do a disk brake at the front (by using the rd50mx front end and alloy wheels) (there is one on eBay that has had the same thing done)

or is there a way I can get the disk brake front without having to use the alloys? (I know there is a fizzy disk brake version, but the problem ive got is finding a front end of a disk brake fizzy)

I plan on using the dt50 for winter, and the fizzy for the good days

wow... that was some intro!

I used to borrow my brothers pop purple fizz when I was 13 and drive it down a disused railway track at the back of our house.  Then the clutch cable snapped and my bro turned 17.  He got a Honda CD175 and the fizzy (MYG 765P) was left to fester at the back of the shed.  Until I hit 16.  Then it was restored and riden till it was nicked from a car park in Leicester in 1983.  Then in my early 40's for some reason I got back into restoring these little beauties and bought the web site of Russell Sears............and here we are nearly 2 years later.

Came across the site from a link from TWO magazine's site.  Thought I'd have a look around out of a general sense of nostalgia.  I had a 1975 Baja Brown FS 1E (KYH 915P) which I bought in 1978 from Rex Judd Motorcycles in Edgware for £140 along with a tasteful yellow polycarbonate helmet. I sold it a year later for £145 after a partial seizure   sorry to whoever bought it   and the exhaust baffle disappearing somewhere down the A41.

Like many others it seems, looking at the "tracing" page on the site, I graduated to another two stroke. In my case an RD200DX.  Pretty sure I've got a picture of me and the fizzy so I'll dig it out, scan it and send it in.  I'm still riding bikes at the grand age of 43.

I’m the original haven’t a clue what im doing sort of guy but hey I’m having fun !!

about 12 months go I was at a car classic show and spotted a yellow fs1e and all the memories came back of lrm 664p that I had 23 years ago bought for 95 sold for 100  the bloke said I could have it for 1500 WOW were they really worth that much ?

A couple of months later ratching around on the internet I found this site and all the good memories came back and I enjoyed the banter and info/photos etc but knew I could not get one until my new double garage was finished  as soon as I had my new double garage I evicted the boy and his corsa and got ready ! I did not want to spend hundreds to start with in case I got bored or could not complete it so getting advice here I spotted some on e bay and picked up a 1990 fs1 one in reasonable nick for 142 and have spent 3 months stripping it down

Im like a boy with a new toy and once it is finished and I've learned better how they work the hunt will be on for a <proper> 1970s unrestricted model and the fs1 will be used by the misses

This is a great website and once (if ever) the fs1 is completed a full restro guide will come on here

Hi im Greg,

I was watching men and motors at some point during the past month and started watching a program called petrol heads. It had a feature about the FS1 E and I just fell in love with it.

Im 15 soon to be 16 and have no interest in the new dull twist and goes, I’ve been looking everywhere for somthing a bit different and couldnt find anything that wasent imported, and even less in my kind of price range of around £500. I would love a little fizzy to run around on for a couple of years, maybe more, although I want somthing thats in resonably good condition I would enjoy doing some work on the bike. By the way id really like a purple or Orange one.

This is a great site and a real help for the mere newbie,  Thanks to all the administrators for making it so easy,  See you all in the forums

I bought my fizzy in 1977 (purple jtb 355p) I bought it for 125quid I rode around the local village with 5 other mates on fizzys terrorising the locals.  Sold the fizzy in 1978 and re invested in a rd200 (a fast bike) now almost nearly a granddad for the first time.

Ok Andy sent a E-mail saying to introduce myself so hear goes some may have read it before.   We knocked about in a crew of about 25 mostly all on fizzy's with a couple of RD 50's thrown in but more importantly all with microns on so you could definetly hear us coming!!

The year was 1983 and it was one of my favorite years of my life so far cos 1. I left school but 2 I became the proud owner of a second hand 1977 fizzy on which I spent every penny I could get my hands on. In its finished state the tank side panels and frame had been sprayed by dream machine, Racing seat fitted, everything was chrome, polished engine casings, suzuki X1 mag wheels twin RD 50 clocks micron exhaust and honestly GSX750 rear shockers. Now for the important bit the rotary valve was a beeline racing one which just meant it had a quarter of an inch taken off the closing side. the carb and inlet were reamed out, the carb was re jetted and a KN filter stuck on the side minus the casing, exhaust port was raised 10mm and barrel was bored out to the biggest oversize I could get it without the crank case flights breaking off( I did get through some barrels doing this). Oh and head skimmed flat. If I remember correctly the front sprocket had 16 teeth and the back 39. So there we have it, believe me or believe me not! I know it was over twenty years ago but it seems like yesterday and I get goose bumps just thinking of the noise we made as we passed by (me in front of course).

God I wish I had it now I don't even own a photo of it in its finished state.

It’s about time I did an introduction so here it is:

Hi i'm Heppie (mike)

I have always been interested with anything mechanical especially engines and vehicles. When I was 14 I decided I wasn’t going to get a 50 mainly because of my height (6’2”) until I was casually looking around on the net and saw a 50cc motorbike and it went about how it was legal for 16 year olds. Excited by this I quickly checked the law and found all of it to be true so I decided to get one.

I had no bike in mind when Greg told me about the fizzy. At first I was a bit unsure about the style of the fizz but soon came to like it. Started looking on eBay found that they were few and far between so I decided to hang back and wait for Greg to get his first considering his enthusiasm for the fizz but the months went on and my birthday came and went while Greg hadn’t found what he was looking for so I decided to get myself a modern 50 (gasp). I was looking at motocross style bikes but got advised away from them by a friend because of parts. I finally got a Gilera DNA, would still have preferred a fizz or other geared bike of some kind but I had to compromise. I now get to help Greg with his and I see why the fizz is so special. I hope to get a rd125 or similar when i’m 17.

Before I get any comments about I cant ride a fizz like everyone else who has twist n go’s I actually helped Greg learn how to ride his.

Hello all - I'm Marc formerly from Hinckley - am 48 so can really relate to many of the members tales! My son has today bought at Kawa 600 to replace his car and now he's an instant bike expert - but I did try to tell him about life on 2 wheels in 'my day' - like many of you my first bike was a Yamaha FS1E in that sickly gold colour, one more notable trip was to Bournemouth [on a hot day and I had to keep stopping for fear of that engine melting!] - Mum was expecting me for lunch, so she was less than happy when she got the "hi Mum....I'm in Bournemouth' phonecall, but - happy days indeed.

I spent hours fettling that bike in the garage and it taught me a lot about mechanics which I carried through to my 4 wheeled transport days. I had a few scrapes on that bike but we both luckily survived. My mates had various bikes, some rode those horrible Honda SS things with the killer pedals, my mate had a Fantic, another had a Gilera - but on a good day with a tailwind and a steep hill I swear I could hit 55mph on my Yam...maybe my memories are dulled but it seemed fast. If my beloved NNR 4M is still out there......come on home boy! Time for a makeover and another trip to Bournemouth, for old time's sake. Take care all. Marc.

Anyways....if anyone knows of LKM 564P could they let me know if its still alive.....

Is it me or has time made yamaha fs1e's the best mopeds ever to be made in the whole world ??okay there maybe faster mopeds out there but ,the fs1e was the best allrounder as it was reliable .And it still looks good,Just one look and memories just flood back, happy days.I read the book on funky mopeds and just seeing the pics of all the old peds was ace.I saw the fs1e web site in it and thought that I would take a look, and then it was like wow I am hooked all over again.I am looking forward to getting my fizzer back on the road { thanks heather } and all being well hoping to go out on some rides with everyone in the new year.

It started when I found the first FS1 I had ever seen (very rare in New Zealand) In fact I had never heard of them. It was on a farm, and destined to end up in the scrap bin. I picked it up for the princely sum of $50.00 (approx 30 Euro) Missing the piston (?) chain, tail light lens and front guard. A great little thing to restore, and my son (10) says it is his now. We will see. A bit of work ahead, but it can join the list (Rover P6 3500, TZR250, CB500/4, RV125) Why do I do it? Lots of really useful info on this forum, and seeing some of the restoration work gets me motivated again. Well done to you all.

HI EVERYONE....   kev from north bucks mk area

Why i hav'nt done this before god only knows.

In 1975 i was sixteen and before my birthday i decided that i should get myself a ped . i was working a saturday job and working on a friday running around with fruit and veg. I was earning the grand total of wait for it £7:00 for nearly twenty hours a week but it was good money so off i went to the local ped dealer to buy my dream bike the fab '' FS1E '' in purple and not knowing you had to be over eighteen for hp i left with my tail between my legs. Not being put off i talked my mum and dad in to the hp agreements and in june of 1975 i was the proud owner of a purple fizz JVV 902N and what fun i had apart from the first day when i fell off in the rain and bent my left pedal which i had to straighten before m/d found out what had happened and give me the i told you so lecture on safe riding.

well that's all for now more to follow.

Hi everybody, I'm new here too. I never had one of these fizzies when I was 16, I could never afford one (Awwww !) Anyway I am picking one up on Sunday, a restoration jobbie that the owner started and can't finish due to job loss.

Just wondering about colours, it's a 1st Aug 74 bike and should the hubs be painted silver or polished ?

Also would there have been candy orange and purple fizzies sold at this time ? I'm sure I had mates who bought new back then and had a choice - does it depend on chassis numbers ?
Is there anybody else from the Wakefield/West Yorks area ?

Thanks.

Mine was a FS1-E with an all in one racing tank and seat made of fibre glass. The seat was rock hard and resulted in extremely numb bum even after a few miles.  Raised ports, expansion chamber, dropped bars, changed gearing, endless pistons and plugs...41mph top wack. Happy days. Next time I'm in Cornwall I'll dig out the old photos.

Wrote it off against a tourist coach at the bottom of the hill going into Boscastle. Think I was doing a little over 41mph at the time.  We sold the engine and used the rest as hard-core for my dads new garage.  Entombed in concrete until Tony Robinson and Time team dig it up in years to come.

I think the attire must have come with the bike as I had denim shirt, denim trousers, leather jacket and cowboy boots just like the lad on page 1 of the photos. Thank you to those who put this site together.

I am Michael and have had an FS1 for almost a year now. I am 16 until christmas and as soon as that comes my fizzy will be dissapearing. My bike is tastefully modified with Micron, L plates and mini indicators. It also has a beeline spec barrel and old style air box. I have had 65mph on the clock and my mate on a scooter said he was doing 70mph at the time but we all know how crap mopeds speedos are. I love stopping somewhere and meeting people who use to have FS1E's. But the best bit is the noise any town you ride through you can get everyone to turn and look at you. In March this year I had a crash broke my right pelvis and fibula. Wrote off a discovery but managed to salvage my fizz. I love this site it is great talking to other owners and seeing their bikes.

I am about to build a street fighter based fizz for my sons first bike. I have a vmax and he wants somthing like it!

Any one got the latest info on how to get the most out of a restricted DX?  I have just bought it as a basket case, I think it is a 77 78 one of the early restricted ones. I am about to try and get a V5 for it and find out the truth! The frame and engine numbers match (2G0 250213).  It look like it spent it's last time running as a field bike.  If any one can shed any light on it I would be grateful.

Thanks

Hi to everyone, Been a member now for a few months. It started as a casual read but all you fizzy nuts have given me the bug again. I say again but the last time was 22 years ago when I had my fizz. Funny how you never forget.

My son is now riding his first ped. (Suzuki twist and go i'm afraid). It makes you feel old. I will be looking for another fizz in the near future but in the meantime can anybody help trace my old one. It was a 1976 fs1e. It was in that bronzy/goldy colour and it was registered KAF 977P. Yeah thats right cornish and proud. Have a happy and prosperous new year, Wayne

Hello guys, i'm morgel from the philippines... my dad just gave an old fs1 motorcycycle.. I think it was a "2ru" model... it was very dirty and was not used for very long time. This was my fathers first motorcycle. Hoping that in this forum I can still revive that motorcycle and crank its  engine running again. I hope also that you guys can help me to find parts for my motorcycle.

Hello..

Well, my name is Morten, aged 30, service technician (Copiers) and I am from Denmark.

I unfortunately sold my (at the time) "old" fizzy in 1993 sad.gif  For some time I have been looking for another one, and now I am buying one from a younger family member.  It needs to be brought back to its original look, since we in Denmark in the 90's made them look like racing bikes with unoriginal bad quality chrome parts.  I'm looking forward to try make it look the same way as it did new. Will be back soon with some pictures when i pick it up.  Lot's of danish mopeds can be seen here:

Hi everyone , my names Baggie and i'm 46. it cannot be 30 years ago last week that i bought my beloved Fizzy!! HWR126N a proper Purple Peril , £115 off my best mate (we still ride together now GS1200/916) i saved up £5 a week from my paper-ound money , when i started work the next week i bought the Boeri helmet that i had been admiring in the shop window for months £19.99! I managed to crash the bike within the first week and took someone eleses ped home so my Mother didnt see the smashed headlight , clocks and tank , she did worry - bet yours did too !! we had no phone then (or colour telly)so she would sit in the front window every night till i made it home safe. Here in West Yorkshire the moped scene was epic , there would be a regular 20 bikes parked at our "Bench" in Wakefield and we rustled up 30 + to go to the bike racing at Scarboro Sept 77.

81 miles !!! nowadays i,m there and back before breakfast , back then it took a weeks planning and preparation I know you know what i mean when i tell you the feeling of freedom we all got when we finally got a ped , i'm tingling now thinking about it.! I bough a late non pedal Fizzy bout 10 years ago full of good intention but it languished in the corner of the garage for tooo long and i realised i could never give it the time it deserved and sold it on to finance my other weakness- - Kawasaki triples , but thats another club !

Look at me rattling on , sorry for boring you but I just remembered the time when someone told me my exhaust was blocked and that's why my ped was dog slow 40mph tops.took of the zorst off and cleaned out all the coked up ports , i took it straight onto our speed testing dual -carriageway (downhill!) but it still only did 40 i was gutted till i realised i was still in third ? I clicked her into top and we sailed up to the Magic 50mph, we were as one! i'd never been that "fast" before. I was so embroiled in my now legendary tuning abilities that i shot straight across the Tesco roundabout and three lanes of traffic going round it.

Hope to catch some of you at some time . Baggie

Hi guys i am Called Luke i'm 17 and live in Bradford, West Yorkshire. I drive an FS1 and have owned it for 12 months now, i use it almost every day either to get me to and from work, or to get to and from college. I love my Fizzy and am so happy that i am driving it instead of a scooter. It will be a shame to have to sell it on but for practicality reasons i will have to.

Hope to chat more with other Fizzy owners as i have not meet anybody yet who owns one and have only even seen two on the road, other than mine.

Hi to everyone

I am trying to relive my youth - I have owned a FS1E and a FS1E/DX when I was 16 -19 and now many years on in my forties I would like to own another, I am looking for a 1972 - 1977 era Fs1E or FS1E/DX my budget is not that big - I am looking for options to consider - any FS1E out there
